Hi there, hello. Billy here. Welcome to the sixth edition of The Psalmist Corner, a column where we uncover truths from the Book of Psalms. If this is your first time on Bud and Blossom, feel free to check for older posts here
Also, see embedded some songs reflecting today’s theme.
In today’s edition, we will look at Psalm 93 for a quick read and I hope you’re encouraged by some of the things I share today. The reason why I have chosen to share this Psalm is that it speaks of the greatness and majesty of our God. The writer paints numerous vivid pictures that spark our imaginations and have the capacity to fill us with awe as we meditate on them.
The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. - Psalm 93:1
Robbed In Majesty
We begin here and it’s pretty interesting that the writer starts this chapter by making reference to clothing. In the times that this Psalm was written and perhaps, even more, today, you can tell a lot about a person by what they wore. Social and economic divisions were clearly marked by the quality and style of the attire that people put on and not much has changed today. Our Lord clothed with majesty and strength is an incredible picture because it shows us that these attributes are in the very fabric of His being. What’s even more amazing is that the clothes can never be greater than the owners. This means that it would be an understatement to simply call our God majestic! These words do not even begin to define the very core of His being because He is greater than His robes.
Ancient Kingdom, Ageless Throne
It’s a bit contradictory to describe someone or something as both ancient and ageless. By definition, being ancient has the concept of age reflected within, yet, here we see our God and His throne described as both old and everlasting. It is through the existence of this throne that He has established this world. The entirety of the earth is pointless and would not exist if our God’s throne isn’t established forever. Think about it; with everything that the world has experienced and the earth has gone through - and is still going through - there is no reason why this planet is still in existence. With all the wars, natural disasters, global warming and other chaotic elements, science may try to explain things away, but we know that it is by the providence of God that we are still here.

Floody Voices, Noisy Waters, Great Waves
I’m always fascinated by the way one element can represent different things in Scripture depending on context. Water as an element is analogous to the Word of God in certain passages and the Holy Spirit in others. However, when the Bible talks about rough waters or turbulent waters, it is usually symbolic of the storms of life. The descriptions can be likened to the turmoils of life on this earth, an experience that we can all connect to in some way. Whether in the physical world or in the hidden parts of our souls, the Lord on high is mightier than the waves of the sea. We cannot be drowned by the waves of life because He is with us.
Holy Witness
The writer concludes beautifully by speaking about the surety of the Lord’s testimony. Assurance is a precious gem that those who belong to God through the redemptive work of Christ on the cross can claim to possess. We live in a fickle and unstable world where even the most trusted people can fail us. Humans are not the only ones not to be trusted, even concepts, ideals and ideas fail us constantly. How privileged are we to have a sure testimony in the Lord?
The second half of this speaks of holiness befitting His house. God does not reside in houses made of stone or wood or gold. Our Lord has two places of dwelling: in the heavens and in our hearts. Now, there is no question about heaven being a holy place. What about our hearts?
Our answer to the call of holiness should be born from love and an understanding that a God that is as awesome, majestic and glorious as ours can only dwell in a holy vessel. That’s the only befitting place for Him and this knowledge should constantly spur us to live according to His Word.
