Have you ever used a mirror?
Maybe you used one during your morning routine before setting out for the day’s activities. Perhaps you have checked a mirror midday, to be certain that your attire was not ruffled nor required an adjustment.
Mirrors are important and needed everyday.
Just as we use mirrors to view our physical appearances, it is also important to check our spiritual forms daily. God has given us His Word as nourishment for our inner-man and a tool to reveal the true state of our hearts and souls.
The Bible exposes man's real condition — our identities, insecurities, inadequacies, errors, thoughts, desires, weaknesses and character flaws. These elements, which we tend to shy away from or refuse to acknowledge are some of the very things God opens our eyes to, as we study and walk with Him. Such diagnosis enables us to recognize our frailties and seek Jesus Christ for help and restoration. Not only does the Word highlight the problems, but it also provides practical solutions and how they can be applied in our daily lives.
James 1:22-25 emphasizes the need for all believers to look into and live according to the Word of Christ received. No man can attain the fullness of righteousness and holiness prepared by the Father if he does not constantly see himself through the lens of Scriptures, and align to its instructions with the aid of the Holy Spirit.
But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
v.25, ESV
For this reason, our eyes must be fixed on God’s Word. As we feed on it, we must also submit and allow it to uncover us so that every undesirable trait and character in our lives can be dealt with properly. By doing so, our beings become transformed to the glorious image of Christ, who is the pattern for all mankind.
For the Word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
